As one of the sectors focused on academic research and talent training in ECUST, Our center, short for Sino-German Research Joint Center of Advanced Materials, has been under the construction and administration of school of Materials Science and Engineering and Sino-German Technology College.
Founded in 2005, our center, originally named “Research laboratory of Advanced Materials”, was considered to become research institution on home and abroad cooperation. This research institution was built in the circumstances of successful realization in cooperation in running programs by Sino-German Technology College and Fachhochschule Lübeck, and further expansion in all around cooperation between ECUST and German-speaking countries. Key tasks were intended to include two aspects, conduction in high-tech research by jointing professors coming from individual institution or universities in German-speaking countries, and combined training of high-level talent paid attention to scientific research, such as postgraduates with Master’s degree, Doctor’s degree, post-doctors. The other one is that, as platform for talent cultivation, our center is committed to improvements in various cooperation exchanges held between ECUST and German-speaking countries.
Our center has featured two characteristic technological fields, polymer molding processing, and study and application on novel functional macromolecule, focusing on academic orientation as follows: (1) Preparation, performance and mechanism on novel functional macromolecule; (2) Study and application on advanced composites with favorable property; (3) Synthesis and mechanism of novel special functional polymer; (4) Research on polymer molding processing and modified macromolecule designation.
Since 2005, our team has been composed of professors, teachers, Ph.D. candidates and postgraduates with master’s degree, in which many of them, such as teachers or Ph.D. candidates, have ever undergo cooperate scientific programs in university of Germany in addition to Prof. Wu, the head of our team, studying in Germany years ago. So far, about 40 projects in longitude and horizon in variety have been finished with papers numbered in hundred and more than ten Chinese patents. In numbers of undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral student have graduated after finishing individual scientific research, two post-doctoral of which have obtained results they expected in the limited time. Many students from Germany have ever joined us on some certain research projects.
Since foundation in 2005, our group has achieved considerable success and improvement in basis and application of polymer materials, designation for novel functional advanced macromolecule. Meanwhile, the group has made great contribution to academic echelon construction, scientific and technological results conversation, Sino-German cooperation and top-level talent cultivation. A solid foundation has ever been laid in fields of top-level research and talent cultivation by further expansion in cooperative exchange with German-speaking universities and institutions. With great efforts, our group are intended to make realization in continuous exploration and practice, full initiative and all-round discovery of individual advantages, the initiative to taking or using advantages of others, and further improvement in reaction by ourselves, aiming to more and more favorable achievements in study of polymer materials, Sino-foreign scientific projects, joint cultivation for talents, administration and cultural construction.
