Title: Preparation on Nylon 6 Toughened by Polycarbonate Elastomer (School Rank, in 2008)
Participants: Wei Fan, Tingting Zhao, Longbao Zhao, Siyang He, Qizhen Lu
Superviser: Prof. Wu
Introduction:
Polymer materials probably tend to represent some drawbacks if they should be toughened by just single elastomer, such as higher toughness and lower strength. Therefore, three elements blends by adding another thermoplastic into the original substances would obtain advanced materials with high strength and high toughness owing to the special phase morphology formed. Alloy composited with Nylon 6 and Polycarbonate are able to retain original favorable properties of them on one hand, and modify their drawbacks on the other hand. There is going to be huge interfacial tension and weak interfacial adhesion because of their incompatibility in thermodynamics, leading to the bad disperse and bad mechanical performance of blends. In recent years, people are trying to find out ways to improve mechanical properties through taking control in phase morphology and interface of the blends. It has witnessed to be the hot spot to research on compatibilization with reactive compatibilizer, in which chemical reaction tend to happen between compatibilizer and original substances in melt mixing by block or branched copolymer formed , getting favorable compatibilization effect.
