Abstract: Polyamide 6(PA6)-based composites were prepared using a melt-mixing technique. One maleated styrene-ethylene/butadiene-styrene copolymers (SEBS-g-MA) and one commercial organic montmorillonite (OMMT) served as the toughener and reinforcing filler, respectively. Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was used as a compatibilizer. The influences of SEBS-g-MA, OMMT and GMA on interfacial adhesion and mechanical properties of PA6 composites were investigated in terms of scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations, mechanical testing, Molautests, infrared spectrum (IR) analyses. The results show that OMMT can weaken the interfacial interactions between PA6 and SEBS-g-MA, resulting in the increase of rubber particle size. Besides, the use of GMA improves the compatibility between PA6 and SEBS-g-MA, leading to further reduction of the sizes of SEBS-g-MA in the matrix, and improves impact strength of the composites, this is due to the reactions between PA6, SEBS-g-MA, and GMA. Satisfactorily balanced mechanical properties of the composites could be achieved in the presence of GMA.
