Abstract: Three different maleican hydride-grafted compatibilizers were used in this article for improving the mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP)/wood flour (WF) composites. The compatibilizing mechanism was then analysed and studied by Fourier transform infrared spectrum (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).Results show that PP-g-maleic anhydride (MAH) has the greatest improvement on the effect of compatibilizing modification. Tensile strength increases by 40. 9%, flexural strength increases by 47. 3%, flexural modulus increases by 35. 3%at 10/100m (PP-g-MAH) / m ( WF) ratio. The particles of wood flour are tightly encompassed by PP when PP-g-MAH is added that the failure is happened on the matrix, not the interface between PP and WF, so that the mechanical properties of PP/ WF composites are effectively improved.
